Shanghai, China in Pictures, PART 2
The Jade Buddha Temple was my favorite spot in Shanghai. The temple isn't the oldest, being founded in 1882, but it is an active Temple with Monks and Practitioners and much of the statuary in this particular temple is spectacular to see. The Three Golden Buddhas, the Gods of the Twenty Heavens and Guanyin standing on the Turtle were amazing sites in the Grand Hall. Seeing the Jade Buddha itself cost a small additional fee, but is stunning. It is a gift from Burma and is carved out of a single piece of Jade. The size surprising, especially after you see the small Jade pieces in the museums. In hindsight, I wish I'd gone to more temples and spent more time so I could fully take in the experience. But that just gives me a reason to go back.
